Where are you from?
Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Why did you choose Kirkwood?
I chose Kirkwood because I saw they had great facilities and staff for healthcare related education.
What is your major and how did you choose it?
I chose to get my Associates of Science – Nursing (ASN) and Registered Nurse (RN) because working as a nurse is a challenging and constantly changing line of work that is engaging in a way many careers are not.
What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?
Making the Dean’s List for my grades last semester.
What are your plans after Kirkwood?
I plan to transfer to a four-year college to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
What inspires or motivates you?
My family is a huge inspiration to me, I am motivated by my desire to contribute to positive change in our community.
Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.
Outside of class I enjoy hiking and camping with my daughter and fiancée, traveling to new places and binge-watching military history documentaries.
What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you?
It is incredibly exciting. When I started at Kirkwood as a non-traditional student I was filled with doubt and anxiety. The faculty and my fellow students really helped to bring out a drive I didn’t know I was capable of. Looking back now, it’s really uplifting and motivates me to continue to work hard.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
