Emily Armstrong

Q: Where are you from? (city, state)

A: Center Point, Iowa

Q: Why did you choose Kirkwood?

A: I started taking classes at Kirkwood as a junior in high school to receive my Certified Nurse’s Aide. From there I fell in love with nursing and chose to pursue Kirkwood to further my career.

Q: What is your major and how did you choose it?

A: Nursing is my major because I feel it is the best way for me to spread positivity and be a light in this world.

Q: What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?

A: Overall, Kirkwood has really helped me put into perspective how many wonderful people and opportunities there are in the world.

Q: What are your plans after Kirkwood?

A: After Kirkwood, I plan to further my nursing career and get my Bachelor of Science in Nursing through Mount Mercy University and continue a healthcare career at Mercy Hospital. Possibly finishing my Nurse Practitioner License.

Q: What inspires or motivates you?

A: The wonderful stories I get to hear from each of the people I meet in healthcare and assisted living.

Q: Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.

A: I still live on the farm at home so as soon as I’m out of class I’m in the barn. I’m usually choring, training horses, or training dogs. My parents have always been so supportive of all I do, and I can’t thank them enough.

Q: What does be named an Outstanding Student mean to you?

A: This is such an incredible honor. I never expected recognition, I just do my best because I work so hard to be here. It feels good to be recognized for the effort I put in each day.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to add?

A: I would like to thank the Kirkwood faculty members for this opportunity.
