Q: Where are you from? (city, state)
A: I am from Iowa City, Iowa.
Q: Why did you choose Kirkwood?
A: I chose Kirkwood because it was a better option for me. It’s a smaller community college and it was closer to home. It was also a cheaper option and gave me more opportunities like transferring to the University of Iowa.
Q: What is your major and how did you choose it?
A: I am a Criminal Justice Major. I chose this because it gives me the ability to serve my community with so many different options in mind like policing, social work, corrections, and more.
Q: What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?
A: My proudest moment at Kirkwood was making the deans list my first semester! I proved to myself that I could succeed in college no matter the obstacles I may have faced.
Q: What are your plans after Kirkwood?
A: After Kirkwood I plan on transferring to the University of Iowa to finish my four years and then becoming a K-9 Officer.
Q: What inspires or motivates you?
A: My family motivates me. As a child they always taught me when you put your focus on something, no matter the obstacles, always achieve what you’re striving to do. Without them, I don’t think I would be able to be as successful in college as I am today.
Q: Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.
A: Outside of Kirkwood I’m a family person and a hard worker. I love spending time with my family on the weekends whether it’s grocery shopping, watching tv, or even just sitting down and talking. I also work at Wig and Pen North Liberty where I am a kitchen staff as well as a cashier. I love my job and wouldn’t want to work anywhere else.

A: Being named an Outstanding Student means that I have influenced someone during my time at Kirkwood. It means I have succeeded during my first year of college and I am so ready for more semesters to come.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to add?
A: Kirkwood has been so good to me as a student. All of my professors have been so kind to me and have really helped me get through my first year of college. I think I made the right choice with Kirkwood and I encourage everyone, if they feel as though a smaller community college is better for them, Kirkwood is the right choice.
