Joan Davis

Q: Where are you from? 

A: Van Nuys, California 

Q: Why did you choose Kirkwood? 

A: I chose Kirkwood because it offered the program that I was interested in and it allowed me to restart my career and rejoin the workforce after two years. 

Q: What is your major and how did you choose it?  

A: I am majoring in Electronics Engineering Technology. It a field I have always wanted to learn about and was a nice transition from 20 years as an aircraft mechanic. 

Q: What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?  

A: Being one of the Grainger’s “Tools for Tomorrow” scholarship recipients for 2021. 

Q: What are your plans after Kirkwood? 

A: Currently am interning with Collins Aerospace. Once I graduate, my career path is to move into a Test Technician role within the company. 

Q: What inspires or motivates you? 

A: My family is my biggest motivation. They have been there every step of the way. Helping me stay on track when things seemed like they were going to be too hard for me to complete.  

Q: Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc. 

A: I am a loving wife, a mother of an amazing daughter and a big goof ball. 

Q: What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you? 

A: It means that all the late nights and weekends I spent preparing for class, getting my homework on time, and my hard work did not go unnoticed by my teachers and it is something I am very proud of.
