Where are you from?
Anamosa, Iowa.
Why did you choose Kirkwood?
Kirkwood as an excellent Diesel Technology and Agricultural program. They also refurbished Washington Hall, and I was pleased that they are investing back into the program that I was interested in pursuing. Kirkwood was also close enough to home that I was able to commute there without having to relocate.
What is your major and how did you choose it?
Originally I was enrolled in the Diesel/Ag Technology degree, and I also decided to enroll in the Diesel Truck Technology program and the Geospatial Technology degree as well. I enjoy working on equipment and the relationship between the mechanics of equipment and the GPS/Geospatial technology is increasingly important, so it made sense to build the foundation for the entire aspect of equipment use.
What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?
My proudest moment at Kirkwood would have to be when I managed to convince most of the guys in my class to wear Daisy Duke shorts for a day. There were a lot of smiles that day.
What are your plans after Kirkwood?
I do not have any plans set in stone for after graduation. I know I want to be working in the agriculture sector, as that is where my passion is.
What inspires or motivates you?
I want to be a successful person and be a good father and role model for my son.
Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.
I have one son that I love dearly. I enjoy woodworking, weightlifting, working in the shop, farming with my family, spending quality time with friends and playing rugby.
What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you?
It means that the hard work and effort that I have applied while at school has been noticed, and I am grateful to receive this award.
