Q: Where are you from? (city, state)
A: Raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida but born in Lima, Perú.
Q: Why did you choose Kirkwood?
A: I chose Kirkwood because I was able to start school right away vs. if I would have gone with the University of Iowa I would have had to wait a year.
Q: What is your major and how did you choose it?
A: My major is Enterprise Leadership which is a hybrid between communications and business. I chose this because it gave me the best of both of the worlds I’m interested in.
Q: What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?
A: My proudest moment at Kirkwood was making the All-Iowa Academic Team.
Q: What are your plans after Kirkwood?
A: My plans after Kirkwood are to get my bachelors in Enterprise Leadership at the University of Iowa and to continue on to a Master’s program.
Q: What inspires or motivates you?
A: What motivates me are the small victories/success along the way that show me I’m capable of more.
Q: Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.
A: Outside of Kirkwood I spend some of my free time volunteering at our local animal shelter, making care packages for the homeless, and finding new ways to get involved in my community. I also enjoy quiet nights at home watching a good movie with my boyfriend Andrew and our beloved dog Eva.
Q: What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you?
A: Being named an Outstanding Student for me is an honor especially coming from an institution like Kirkwood that has given me so much.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to add?
A: I would like to thank all the Kirkwood staff and faculty that made my educational journey not only a memorable one but a successful one too! As a non-traditional student there were many times I doubted myself and my abilities. If there’s anyone out there going through a similar situation I would like to encourage you to keep going and to continue challenging yourself, we’re all capable of accomplishing amazing things if we allow ourselves to.
