Outstanding Students

Matt Ellingson

Where are you from? I’m from Fairmont, Minn., currently living in Iowa City.

Why did you choose Kirkwood? I chose Kirkwood because it is a well-known local program with direct connections to the electronics industry.

What is your major and how did you choose it? Electronics Engineering Technology.  I chose this after a life-long interest in electronics, particularly musical instruments.

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood? Winning first place at the SkillsUSA Conference in Atlanta.

What are your plans after Kirkwood? I plan to stay in the area and working for one of the many local manufacturers.

What inspires or motivates you? I’m motivated by the opportunity to learn something new and finding creative solutions to problems.

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood. Outside of class I enjoy fishing, playing guitar and riding motorcycles.

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you? Being chosen as an Outstanding Student means recognition and validation of the hard work that I have put in during the last two years at Kirkwood.

Is there anything else you’d like to add? I’d like to thank Jim Trepka, Steve Long, and everyone else that has helped me during my time here at Kirkwood.
