Outstanding Students

McKenna Nekola

Where are you from? Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Why did you choose Kirkwood? I chose Kirkwood because it had the program that I was interested in. In addition to this, it was affordable for me, and it is close to my family.

What is your major and how did you choose it? My major is Diagnostic Assistant and Liberal Arts. I decided on being a radiologic technologist because I thought it would be a great way to help others. I also have always been interested in the technology used to diagnose patients.

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood? My proudest moment at Kirkwood has been making the Dean’s List

What are your plans after Kirkwood? My plans after Kirkwood are to attend Mercy/St. Luke’s School of Radiologic Technology. After completing the program and receiving my certification, I hope to work at a hospital or clinic.

What inspires or motivates you? My family and friends inspire and motivate me. They inspire me to work hard for my goals and are my strongest supporters. I am also motivated by the fact I will be able to help many people in my career path.

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood. Outside of school and work, I enjoy reading, volunteering, baking, and being with friends and family.

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you? Being named an Outstanding Student has given me an extreme amount of pride. It makes me feel that all of the studying and effort I put in means something. This honor gives me even more motivation to keep pursuing my goals.
