Where are you from?
Anamosa, Iowa.
Why did you choose Kirkwood?
I chose Kirkwood because it’s an affordable school with great staff. I took Kirkwood my senior year of high school and enjoyed it so I decided to continue there as well.
What is your major and how did you choose it?
My major is in Human Services and it took me a little while to choose it, but once I did I knew it was 100% the right choice. I’ve always wanted to help people in some way and this major is fairly flexible so I’m able to try new things if needed.
What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?
My proudest moment at Kirkwood has been being on the Dean’s list each semester I’ve been here.
What are your plans after Kirkwood?
After Kirkwood I plan on moving out of state and getting my bachelor’s. I’d like to explore some colleges before deciding but I’ve also thought about attending an online university.
What inspires or motivates you?
One thing that inspires and motivates me is my dad. He’s the hardest worker I’ve ever met and he’s always put his children before anyone or anything. He’s a single dad so I can’t even imagine how tough it’s been on him. I’ll be the first in my family to receive a college degree and I know I wouldn’t be where I am without him. He’s constantly motivating me to continue on with school and to push myself to my full potential.
Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.
Outside of Kirkwood I spend a lot of time working and hanging out with friends or family. I enjoy reading and taking my dog for walks as well.
What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you?
Being named an outstanding student means so much to me. I feel like I’ve worked so hard to earn a degree from Kirkwood and although I have a ways to go, this award will definitely help keep me pushing. I’m honored to have received this award.
