Outstanding Students

Tamera Tegtmeier

Q: Where are you from? (city, state)

A: Marion, Iowa

Q: Why did you choose Kirkwood?

A: I chose Kirkwood Community College as I was not sure what I wanted to do. I started my general ed classes first. For me, it was close to where I lived and I could commute back and forth. Kirkwood Community College was reasonable priced as I didn’t have any scholarships or grants.

Q: What is your major and how did you choose it?

A: I am an Early Childhood Ed Major. I chose this major as I enjoy working with children and seeing them learn and grow.

Q: What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?

A: I have to say my proudest moment was receiving a thing in the mail that I was on the Dean’s List and now a recipient of the Outstanding Student Recognition.

Q: What are your plans after Kirkwood?

A: I plan to find a job in my field and use what I have learned. I hope to inspire others who feel they are too old to go back to college and learn new things.

Q: What inspires or motivates you?

A: What inspires me or motivates is to continue to learn new things and never give up. Strive to be the best that I can.

Q: Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.

A: Outside of Kirkwood, I enjoy playing piano, being outside, going for long walks, hanging out with family and friends and traveling to warm places that I have not been to.

Q: What does be named an Outstanding Student mean to you?

A: To me, being named an Outstanding Student is a huge accomplishment. This is something I never thought I would be recognized for. After having tried to go back to Kirkwood several times to finish with my degree, at my age, I am finally doing it and have worked very hard to get where I am.
