Why did you choose Kirkwood?
I chose Kirkwood because it was an affordable way to receive my education, especially during the pandemic. I also met with multiple staff from Kirkwood before deciding, who made me feel comfortable and supported.
What is your major and how did you choose it?
I graduated from Kirkwood with an Associate of Liberal Arts. My major now is Education Studies and Human Relations with a minor in Social Work. I chose this major because I have an innate passion to support students and young adults both in their education and in their lives.
What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?
My proudest moment from Kirkwood was making the Dean’s List every semester.
What are your plans after Kirkwood?
My plans after Kirkwood are to attend the University of Iowa to major in Education Studies and Human Relations with a minor in Social Work. My concentration areas include Trauma-Informed Advocacy and Diversity and Inclusion. After two years, I plan to work within a school or for a youth organization.
What inspires or motivates you?
My biggest aspiration is to make a difference in others’ lives. I am motivated by the potential I have to make others feel loved and cared for, especially those who may not receive it elsewhere.
Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.
I am the youngest of 4 children. We also have 8 cats. I work part-time as a server and as a teacher for my church’s Kids Wing. I love to read, write and spend time outdoors. I am a first-generation college student and I loved the time I spent in Kirkwood’s TRIO program.
What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you?
Being selected as an Outstanding Student is an honor. This selection has made me feel that my hard work and passion has been recognized. I am thankful for this opportunity.

Thank you to the faculty at Kirkwood who have encouraged and supported me. Thank you to those who nominated me. It is truly a privilege to have learned from you. Lastly, thank you to my family who loves me unconditionally.
