Outstanding Students

Victoria Morrow

Where are you from?

I am from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Why did you choose Kirkwood?

I choose Kirkwood because it was a close and convenient school for me to attend and very affordable as well.

What is your major and how did you choose it?

I am finishing up my A.A.S. degree in Criminal Justice this spring and plan to move on to my career of choice once I’ve graduated.

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?

I’ve had many of my teachers come back to me with very positive feedback on my written assignments. I love to write, so I feel very accomplished when I’ve been told I’ve surpassed expectations.

What are your plans after Kirkwood?

I plan to enter the Criminal Justice field. I would love to become a police officer.

What inspires or motivates you?

My dad and mom have always been super supportive of me. It was my dad who really pushed me to go to Kirkwood when I was struggling to choose where I wanted to attend college. I am forever grateful to him for pointing me in the right direction. And to my Mom as well, who always assured me that I could get the grade I wanted and celebrated with me when I did so. My parents believe in me, and that means the world to me.

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.

Outside of Kirkwood I’m just a quirky, energetic gal who loves to be active and have a good time! I enjoy running, kickboxing, MMA (mixed martial arts), reading fiction, writing short stories, watching movies with my friends, spending time with my family, practicing tricks on my skateboard and I love it when I get to make people laugh. I’m extremely committed to my job and I feel very grateful to be a part of the Mission of Hope staff and work very hard at my job.

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you?

I work hard in school because I believe it’s important to challenge yourself and give as much effort as possible in every aspect of your life. I feel very honored to be chosen as one out of many other Outstanding Students. There are a lot of wonderful, committed and hardworking students who are, I’m sure, feeling just as surprised as I am to have this special recognition now a part of their academic experience. Truly, I did not foresee any of this nor did I know this recognition even existed, but I’m honored and grateful to have been chosen.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Thank you to all my teachers who have truly made the entirety of my college experience one to remember. I’ve learned more than I’ll ever know. Thank you for letting me express myself in the classroom and being so attentive to me as I learned. Kirkwood made me feel like I really have a voice to speak out. Not just a voice, but a voice that matters. For that, I will always be grateful. Thank you, Kirkwood.
