CONTRIBUTED: JJ Peters, a new student at Kirkwood Community College, is using his time at the school as a steppingstone to a bright future in sports journalism.

Q: How long have you been a Kirkwood student and how’s your experience been thus far?

A: I’ve been here for about two months. I started in January. It’s been pretty good experience so far. News Reporting is probably my favorite class.

Q: Why did you choose to attend Kirkwood?

A: It was the easiest choice for me. I could stay home and balance the time with my full-time job. Kirkwood is a good starting point to make sure college is something I want to pursue.

Q: What are your future career plans?

A: I’m trying to grow experience in sports journalism and work on growing as a reporter.

Q: Why are you taking News Reporting?

A: I want to find a career as a news reporter. I’d like to work within the sports journalism industry in the future.

Q: To you, what is the most important aspect of News Reporting?

A: I think the most important part is stating the facts and giving both sides. It’s important to stay unbiased as a news source.

Q: How has COVID-19 affected your experience at Kirkwood?

A: It hasn’t impacted me too much because I prefer online courses. Online classes let me do assignments on my own time. It works best with my schedule.

Q: What are some of your hobbies outside of college?

A: I have my own sports podcast called “The Sports Town” podcast. I should have another episode up this week. Obviously, I love watching sports. I consider social media to be a hobby as well. Other than that. I enjoy working out and golfing.

Q: What’s your favorite genre of music?

A: I listen to a lot of hip hop and rap. The only genre I don’t listen to is country.

Q: If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

A: Super strength would be nice. I feel like you can do so much good with super strength.

Q: Is there any other interesting facts that you’d like to add?

A: I was homeschooled for most of my schooling years and I went to a Christian school for about two years.
