The United States is more than a billion dollars in debt, but money is needed in every day life. This includes paying for food, water, shelter, and transportation. Not everyone has access to money, but it is a necessity in order to live a healthy life and take care of yourself when living on your own.
Many children from a young age until high school grow up without having any income, this is not an issue when living under the roof of a parent or guardian. However, when you get older and need to use transportation and bussing is not accessible, a car may be needed. In order to have a car, you need to have money to pay for gas and additional services.
After graduation from college, it is the first time that many students are alone. When this is the case, you need to provide for yourself.
From paying for rent, to bills, education, etc, money is what makes life come altogether. Income is also a primary factor for electronics including paying for a phone and the phone bill, buying clothes, shoes, and hygiene products.
Although not everyone has access to these resources, there are ways to be supported. The local shelters in Cedar Rapids and other counties in the Corridor have supplies for those in need.
After attending school, graduates often go out and search for jobs in the work force. What is the reason for this? To earn a solid income and create a steady life. This pattern of life is centered around needing an income, money.
Money is also a large motivator for working hard to earn the the resources needed to live a balanced life. If one does not have an income, there may not be an ability to live as financially stable as others. When it comes to comparing yourself, money is an additional factor. When you see someone who seems content, has a full-time or part time job and is stable, they must be doing well financially. They may be able to afford to pay for their necessities and provide for themselves.
Although there are other ways to get by without receivinghelp, the multitude of resources in the area will supply you when in need of support.
Liz is a graduating second year Journalism and Mass Communications student who has been Creative Director and News Editor with the Communiqué. She also has previously worked at 88.3 Jazz KCCK as a Radio News Intern and the Corridor Business Journal as a Reporting Intern. In the fall, she will transfer to the University of Iowa with the 2+2 program. At Iowa, she will continue her journalism passions with the Daily Iowan newspaper and DITV. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree, she plans to work as a Multimedia Journalist/Reporter at a station in Iowa.
