From elementary through high school, many students had to take the bus to get to and from school. In college, most students who attend community colleges drive their own cars.
The reality is, taking the bus is not a common practice for many students. But, the 380 Express is a bussing option available to all Kirkwood Community College students and faculty for a minimal cost.
Any student or faculty who fills out the online form (www.kirkwood.edu/380expressrides) receives 10 free bus passes.
Not only is this the more affordable option, but it is also fuel efficient.
The bus stops right next to the roundabout at the college’s main entrance and makes stops to the Coralville Intermodal bus stop, Iowa City Court Street Center, The University of Iowa Hospital (WCTC), Cedar Rapids Ground Transportation Center, and Cedar Rapids Lot 44.
There are also many other options for inexpensive bus routes. These include the City of Cedar Rapids Buses, Corridor Rides, and more.
The buses have certified drivers who are timely, along with ensuring your safety. It is also a better option than driving every day because it puts fewer miles on your car, uses less gas and increases fuel efficiency.
Taking the bus also helps reduce the amount of stress when having to drive.
While riding the bus to and from campus, you can relax instead of having to pay attention to the road.
This may also give students time to work on assignments, read books, or chat with and meet other people.
The bus also offers free Wi-Fi, power outlets, USB ports and restrooms.
Improving time management is another benefit of taking the bus. If students need work on their organization skills, catching the bus at a certain time per day also helps with keeping a steady and organized schedule. Although the buses may not alw
ays be perfectly on time, knowing that you need to be at the bus stop in a timely manner allows for that skill to develop.
Maintaining a steady schedule, saving money, fuel efficiency, and time management are all reasons why taking the bus is a positive method of transportation for Kirkwood students.
And, because the college offers free bus passes, just give it try and experience the benefits for yourself.
