Where are you from? I am from West Africa, Togo.
Why did you choose Kirkwood? The reason I chose Kirkwood is because of the outstanding programs, the high quality of education, the in-state student tuition is affordable, and there are some availabilities of grants and scholarships.
What is your major and how did you choose it? After finishing my English Language Acquisition classes, I decided to pursue my major, Criminal Justice (Liberal arts). Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to help others by protecting them from falling into any criminal activities.
What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood? Kirkwood has really helped me by giving me an opportunity to participate in the MIDTESOL adult writing contest in 2020, and I won first place. I also had the opportunity to work with the global learning office as a peer assistant, and that was a huge plus to my knowledge and an experience for me. I also have been named to the Kirkwood dean list six times during my two years degree and those were my proudest moments at Kirkwood.
What are your plans after Kirkwood? After Kirkwood I would like to get my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Talking about myself outside of Kirkwood I have a full-time job, and if I am not working, I go to the gym, love cooking, I m a choral singer and I write music for the church I go to. I also stay connected with my parents back home. I call them twice a week.
What inspires or motivates you? My first inspiration is to help those in need. It is such as divine, and thanks be to GOD, my family and friends have always been a big support for me.
What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you? Being an outstanding student is an encouragement for me, this means I can do more. I am incredibly happy and proud of myself because I worked so hard to achieve this, so it is an honor for me. I want to thank all my teachers and specifically Mike Penrod for all his support during my journey in my Criminal Justice classes.
Is there anything you’d like to add? One thing I want to add is “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16.
