Q: Where are you from? (city, state) 

A: Oelwein, Iowa 

Q: Why did you choose Kirkwood? 

A: Kirkwood had the program I was interested in, I liked the small classroom number that would allow me to have a professional relationship with my professors. 

Q: What is your major and how did you choose it? 

A: Occupational Therapy Assistant. I have been a nursing assistant for 3 years and really liked the OT field. I enjoyed working as a nursing assistant and thought it would be fun to work with individuals to help achieve their goals. Kirkwood’s program was the most appealing to me. 

Q: What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?  

A: My proudest moment has been named on the dean’s list all 5 semesters while being at Kirkwood. 

Q: What are your plans after Kirkwood? 

A: After graduation, I plan to take the NBCOT certification exam to be able to start practicing as a COTA. I would like to obtain a job around the Cedar Rapids area. 

Q: What inspires or motivates you? 

A: My family motivates me the most. They always encourage me to be the best I can be and to learn from my mistakes. They have supported me throughout my entire college career.  

 
Q: Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc. 

A: I like to spend time with my family outside of school. I have two sisters, 1 niece, and 1 nephew. I love to take walks in the park and go on trails. I like to be outside in the spring and summer and enjoy the weather. I also love to do crafts and DIY projects.  

 
Q: What does be named an Outstanding Student mean to you? 

A: Being named an outstanding student means so much to me. I feel honored to be chosen for this award as I have worked hard throughout my college experience to get to where I am today. My hard work has paid off and can’t be happier.
