Jenna Lane

Q: Where are you from? (city, state) 

A: My name is Jenna Lane and I’m from Vinton, Iowa.  

Q: Why did you choose Kirkwood? 

A: After high school, I wasn’t sure what career path I wanted to take. Kirkwood was the best choice for me because of the affordability and transferability to four year colleges and universities.  

Q: What is your major and how did you choose it? 

A: I will graduate from Kirkwood this spring with a liberal arts degree and start at the University of Iowa in the fall, where I will be majoring in exercise science.  

Q: What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood?  

A: My proudest moment at Kirkwood was becoming the vice president of the Kirkwood chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of two year colleges.  

Q: What are your plans after Kirkwood? 

A: . My ultimate goal is to go to Northwestern University to receive a master’s in prosthetics and orthotics. I chose prosthetics because it combines creativity and science, all while helping patients improve their quality of life.  

Q: What inspires or motivates you?

A: My family motivates me to do my best and to be successful. As a first generation student, it’s important to me to complete my college degree. 

Q: Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood – hobbies, family, other interests, etc.

A: Outside of Kirkwood, I enjoy reading, doing embroidery, and baking. I also love traveling with my family. 

Q: What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you? 

A: It’s an absolute honor to be named an Outstanding Student. The Kirkwood faculty is world class, and for them to give me this honor means the world to me.
