Where are you from? I am originally from Syria, where I practiced law as an attorney before seeking asylum in the United States.

Why did you choose Kirkwood? Kirkwood presented itself as an institution committed to fostering diversity, inclusivity, and excellence in education, which resonated deeply with my values and aspirations.

What is your major and how did you choose it? My major is Paralegal. Given my background and passion for advocating human rights, pursuing a career in law felt like a natural extension of my experiences and interests.

What has been your proudest moment at Kirkwood? My proudest moment at Kirkwood was when I successfully completed a particularly challenging legal research project, which showcased my dedication to my studies and my ability to overcome obstacles.

What are your plans after Kirkwood? Upon completing my studies at Kirkwood, I am eager to continue my journey towards becoming a licensed attorney and contributing to organizations dedicated to upholding human rights.

What inspires or motivates you? My experiences as an asylum seeker and a human rights advocate inspire me to continue fighting for justice and equality for all individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Tell us about who you are outside of Kirkwood. I enjoy spending time with my family, engaging in outdoor activities, and volunteering for causes related to human rights and refugee assistance.

What does being named an Outstanding Student mean to you? It is a tremendous honor, affirming my dedication to academic excellence and my commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

Is there anything else you’d like to add? I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to share my story and aspirations with you. I am confident that my unique background, coupled with my academic and professional experiences, will make me a valuable asset to Kirkwood and to any organization dedicated to promoting justice and human rights.
